JONKERSNEK
Few people will forget 5 December 1970 where summer weather
turned into a cold spell over night. Theronnie and Liz van der
Merwe know the story well …that night when 950 Angora’s died and
only 150 survived. However, tragedy is not for the faint hearted
and the Van der Merwes have shown commitment in virtually
starting from scratch. Today, he manages some 1 500 Merino
sheep and 1 500 Angoras on a 9000 hectare farm, which receives
an average of 11 inches of rain per year. Liz and Theronnie have
two daughters – Francis and Karin. |
